Novell Congres

Last week I spoke on the Novell Congres in the Netherlands. There where about 400 people in The Reehorst in the city Ede.
Overall I got the impression that everybody was satisfied.

My session where also good. In the morning I gave a session how to create a SLES10 Template for VMware ESX. There were about 40 people in the room including some customers of mine.

In the afternoon I gave a session about NSS performance. This session was hot! About 120 people where in the room. I don’t know what about you guy’s but this was my first time I spoke for shuts a audience.
But the session was real good, afterwards I got many positive responds from people. Thanks!!! I really appreciate that!

In the final slide I asked people to do the same test on there SAN like I did and send the results to me. When I get those. I will collect and bundle the results and publish them over here.

If you like a copy of the session slides. Look at the site of the Novell Congres or send me a message.

Groupwise Sync with Iphone

Finally! I found a way to sync my calender with my Iphone. It’s not a corporate solution but it works for me!

If you go to www.groupwisesync.com you can create a free or premium account ( 29,95 pound per year) to sync your Groupwise Calender and Todo list with your Iphone or other mobile device.

You have to open a SOAP port (7191) for the servers of groupwisesync (the ip adres is found is: 94.236.26.21) to you PostOffice and install a GroupwiseSync client on you Iphone.

My first test are ok. First I got a Error 511 but after limiting the Todo’s everything went fine. Although it takes some time for appointment from my Iphone to sync to my Groupwise Calendar I’m pretty excited.

If I encounter some problems more I will let you know.

Oops umount failed :-(

When I was testing my setup for the NovellCongres.nl my Virtual Machine with SLES10SP2 with VMI kernel wouldn’t properly shutdown without giving a error trying to umount the root filesystem:

Oops umount failed πŸ™

After searching the Internet with Google if found the solution:

  • Open the file /etc/init.d/boot.localfs with you favorite text editor
  • find all umount part and add the option -l (lazy) to the umount command.

Thats it.

This option will detach the filesystem form the filesystem hierachy now, and clanup all references to the filystem as soon as it is not busy any more.

Novell Congres

On 13 may there is for the 8 time a dutch congress called NovellCongres.nl.

The keynote speaker is no more than John Dragoon, senior vice president en chief marketing officer from Novell USA. Nice!
I’m curious the hear what he has to say about the future of Novell.

I’m proud to say, that this year I’m one of the speakers. I’m giving 2 technical sessions about VMware and OES2.

One session is about creating and deploying a OES2 template for VMware ESX.
The second session is about something I blogged much about on this site. The performance of NSS on VMware ESX.
So for those who read my blog on a regularly basis, you will know what the end conclusion will be……
For those who don’t read my blog regularly… SAME ON YOU….! Just kidding… After the session I will post the
presentations here on this site.
And if you are Dutch…. Come to the congress.. There are many other interesting session you can attend to.

VMware ESX Course

This week I’m giving the Course PB-VM-ESX for Ictivity Training in there new training location in Bathoevendorp.

The weather is great, the mood of the students are great and the like the course.

The last day I had a little bit of trouble with duplicate IP-Adresses but after we figured that out, everything went fine.
Hope to see them back again in a Linux Course πŸ˜‰
