VMware Workstation 6.5 availible

VMware released VMware workstation 6.5.
I have upgrade my OpenSuse 11.0 workstation yesterday.

These are the main new features taken from the VMware site:

* Enhanced VMware ACE authoring — Use ACE (Assured Computing Environment) features to package and deploy Pocket ACE and desktop virtual machines with encryption, restricted network access, and device control. VMware ACE authoring features are now fully integrated with Workstation, and no special ACE Edition is required. In addition to the new features listed here, be sure to read about new ACE-specific features in the VMware ACE 2.5 beta release notes.
* Unity mode — Integrate your favorite guest applications with your host. Open the application window, enter Unity mode, and the Workstation window is automatically minimized. The guest application windows look just like host application windows, but with color-coded borders. You can access the virtual machine’s Start menu (for Windows virtual machines) or Applications menu (for Linux virtual machines) by placing the mouse pointer over the host’s Start or Applications menu, or by using a key combination.
* Accelerated 3-D graphics on Windows XP guests — Workstation 6.5 virtual machines now work with applications that use DirectX 9 accelerated graphics with shaders up through Shader Model 2.0 on Windows XP guests. Hosts can be running Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Linux.
* Virtual machine streaming — You can now download a virtual machine from a Web server and power it on without waiting for the download to complete. Use the command-line startup command (vmware for Workstation or vmplayer for VMware Player) with the URL of the virtual machine. The download can also be paused and restarted. Note that this feature is not available for ACE instances.

Especailly the Unity mode I find great. Now I can use the VI-Client on my Linux notebook!!!

Novell exam NCE-ES availible

The NCE-ES Exam is availble.

This is a new certification for Novell Engineers. Below a description from the Novell site.

The NCA ES certification is designed for network administrators and other network management professionals who have little or no experience with Novell products and services. It provides a high-level view of those products and services.The NCA ES particularly focuses on SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 and Novell Open Enterprise Server for Linux. To meet the requirements of enterprise-class infrastructure deployments, this certification brings together SUSE Linux Enterprise Server with a suite of tightly integrated, proven networking services in Novell Open Enterprise Server. The NCA ES now offers greater value as a certification because it can prove to an employer that the candidate has a useful working knowledge of common administrative tasks for Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 and an understanding of the value proposition of not just Open Enterprise Server 2 but all Novell products. You will also learn about the integration we can offer—from Linux desktops to servers—including systems management solutions, and will gain a good foundation in our security and identity offerings.

Upgrade to Groupwise 8 BETA 5

So 2 day’s a go, I update my Groupwise 8 closed BETA 3 to open Beta 5. And then the trouble started!
The first problem I ran into, was that my database version of the POA did not upgrade from 7.2 to 8.
I the mean while I upgrade my Groupwise client on linux and Webaccess also. But when I tried to login, I got the
error that I cannot connect whit this version of the Groupwise Client or Webaccess to this Postoffice.

I read some TID’s and the suggested to replace the *.DC files in the POA directory (you can find them on
the Groupwise CD in the poa directory). This didn’t solve the problem, I had to rebuild the postoffice database
from my primary Domain the get the update right.

Ok, so I could login to my mailbox. But the shock came when I went to my Calendar. Al the appointments that
I have made with the closed Beta where gone!!! What the h….?????
And what every I did, I did not get them back. So I thought to restore my Postoffice from Backup and do the upgrade again. But as you may guess, gone again.
So now I have to refill my Calendar again!
So what happend? My guess is that when I installed the closed beta in January 2008 my Groupwise database did not
upgrade correctly. Of course I checked the version, and it said 7.2. But was that the correct version? I don’t know. And I couldn’t ask Novell or search the web for it. Everything worked great until I upgrade to BETA 5.
I don’t want to say that BETA 5 is the problem, but than the problem occurred.

If I encounter more problems with Groupwise 8 I will posted it out here.

So I found a little bug in the adress book. Normally if you enter a name in the TO field, and Groupwise

finds to entries with to different email adress, Groupwise asks you witch email adress should be used.

But when the names of the record are not exactly the same (including capitals) it’s treaded as a different entry.

for example:

michael wilmsen (michaelwilmsen@hotmail.com)

Michael Wilmsen (michaelwilmsen@gmail.com)

are not the same for Groupwise.

So if found another annoying thing in. I don’t know at this moment what the solution is but I noticed that some html mail gets corrupted. It takes a long time (10 min) to open or reply to a email.
If I send the email in clear text, it’s now problem.
The emails don’t get corrupted the first time, but after some reply’s it occurs.
I don’t think that I will find a solution for this, just hoping that the next release will fix it.

N8000 Jumpstart ZENWorks Configuration Management 10, 16 and 17 September

16 and 17 September I will be giving the course N8000 from Novell, ZENWorks 10 Configuration Managemnet Jumpstart.

This is the jumpstart training for the N3098 Fundamentals of Novell ZENWorks configuration Management 10, what will be the final course for ZCM10.

It’s a nice practical training. And I’m very excited to run this course. Let’s find out how the student find the course.
